YMMV, but what I've seen — Zigbee works great for this use case.
iot_maker: Completely agree — I had the same issue and solved it by updating the driver. Took me a while to locate that setting.

Honestly, I'd choose OpenHAB over Vera for reliability. Keep in mind the setup time.
